What this is about

Trailbook is a private, non-commercial fan project. It shows you on a map the routes and events that the Trailbook addon records in World of Warcraft Forever and that you upload yourself. There are no ads, no tracking, and your data is not passed on for any other purpose.

What data Trailbook processes

  • Signing in: You sign in with Battle.net, that is with Blizzard Entertainment, where Blizzard's privacy policy applies. Afterwards Trailbook receives from Blizzard only your Battle.net account ID and your BattleTag, never your password.
  • Recordings: from the Trailbook files you upload, your characters (first name and surname, class, race, sex, faction), their routes (places and times), events such as quests, items, gold, deaths, guild and group, and the names of the players in your group. Trailbook keeps them in a folder named after your account ID, so that only you see them, unless you share a character; it does not keep the uploaded files themselves. For each profile Trailbook stores up to 50 characters and 50 MB of recordings.
  • Server: When you open the site, the host processes the connection data this needs, such as your IP address.

What for

So that you can look at your recordings and, if you want, share single characters. Others see your characters only if you share them. For users in the EU the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR: the processing is necessary to provide the service you use.

Where the data is and who receives it

  • The site runs at DigitalOcean, LLC (USA); the data is stored in its data centre in Frankfurt am Main (Germany). Requests to the site pass through Cloudflare, Inc. (USA). For transfers to the USA, DigitalOcean relies on the EU standard contractual clauses.
  • Blizzard Entertainment handles the sign-in.
  • Otherwise Trailbook passes no data on, unless you share a character.

Sharing

If you share a character under “Manage recordings”, anyone who knows its address can look at it on the map, without signing in and without being able to change anything. The address holds the character's ID from the game, which other players can read there too; whoever knows or guesses it finds the character even without your link. The shared view does not show the names of your group members. “Stop sharing”, deleting the character or deleting your profile ends the sharing at once.

Cookies

Trailbook sets only cookies that are technically necessary: one keeps you signed in for 30 days, a second one protects the sign-in for 10 minutes. The chosen colour theme and the colouring of the map are stored only by your browser. There are no analytics or advertising cookies.

How long

Your recordings stay stored until you delete them: single characters with the trash can under “Manage recordings”, everything with “Delete profile” in the menu under your BattleTag at the top right. The cookies expire after 30 days and 10 minutes.

Your rights

You can delete your data yourself at any time: everything with “Delete profile” in the menu under your BattleTag, single characters under “Manage recordings”. If you want to know what data is stored about you, or want something corrected, write to [email protected]. You can also complain to a supervisory authority: in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), in the EU the authority of your country.

Blizzard
